How to Redirect domain.org to mydomain.org (cPanel Hosting)

This article explains how to redirect the domain domain.org to mydomain.org using cPanel, including DNS setup and redirect verification.

Prerequisites

  • You have access to your cPanel account
  • You own both domains: domain.org and mydomain.org
  • You have access to the domain registrar where domain.org is registered

Step 1: Point domain.org to Your cPanel Hosting Server

To make redirection work, the DNS of domain.org must point to the same server where mydomain.org is hosted.

Option A: Use the Same Nameservers

If mydomain.org uses nameservers like:

pdns.indichosts.net
sdns.indichosts.net
tdns.indichosts.net
edns.indichosts.net
idns.indichosts.net

Update the nameservers of domain.org to match these. This is done in the control panel of your domain registrar.

Option B: Set up an A Record

Alternatively, update the A record for domain.org to point to the server IP of mydomain.org.

Step 2: Add domain.org as an Alias (Parked Domain) in cPanel

  1. Log in to cPanel
  2. Navigate to DomainsCreate a New Domain
  3. In the input box, type: domain.org
  4. Tick Share document root
  5. Click Add Domain

This tells the server to treat domain.org as an alias of your primary domain.

Step 3: Configure the Redirect

  1. In cPanel, go to Domains > Redirects
  2. Choose the following settings:
    • Type: Permanent (301)
    • Domain: domain.org
    • Redirects to: https://mydomain.org
    • Leave the default options for "www" and wildcard redirects
  3. Click Add

This will redirect all traffic from domain.org to mydomain.org.

Step 4: Verify DNS Propagation (Optional)

After updating DNS, it may take a few minutes to several hours to propagate globally.

To check:

  • Visit https://dnschecker.org
  • Enter domain.org and select A Record
  • Confirm that it points to the same IP as mydomain.org

Step 5: Test the Redirection

Once DNS is propagated:

You can also use tools like:

Enter https://domain.org to confirm it shows a 301 redirect to https://mydomain.org.

Success

You’ve now successfully redirected domain.org to mydomain.org.
