0x80042108 POP Email error

Outlook shows error Reported error (0x80042108): Outlook is unable to connect to your incoming (POP3) email server. when checking email.

Error code
0x80042108 indicates break in connection between the email-client such as Microsoft Outlook and POP Server configured in email settings on Outlook. Common reason for same could be,

  1. Non-standard POP server configured in Outlook settings. The POP Server specified in Outlook settings should be in the format mail.domainname.com

  2. An Anti-Virus or firewall installed on your PC maybe blocking POP connections. Please disable them and then try to check emails
  3. A corrupted PST (Personal Storage Table) file. Consequently, Outlook has an Inbox Repair Tool that fixes corrupted PST files.
