Question: When composing emails in SmarterMail Webmail, as we type in a character in 'TO'  field, we get a drop-down of all the email addresses for our domain starting with that character. How do we disable this?

Solution: We recently upgraded this Email-server to Enterprise version http://support.indichosts.net/helpdesk/index.php?_m=news&_a=viewnews&newsid=79

One of the major benefits the upgrade is to give all domain users the ability to share calendars, task, notes, and contacts publicly. Under this, one facility is the 'Global Address List'. The Global Address List will create, by default, a group of users (email contacts) domain-wide, consisting of all the POP/email accounts created for that domain. The thought behind this is, to enable simple prompting of commonly used email addresses, thereby avoiding typos and saving time. The prompts you see are coming from the 'Global Address List' for example.com.

As this is an Enterprise feature, wanted by most clients, it cannot be disabled server-wide. However, there is a facility that will allow one of the two options,

(1) Public availability for all users - Disabling this will remove all the Enterprise features and hence stop these prompts. For more information please read http://help.smartertools.com/SmarterMail/v5/Topics/DomainAdmin/Settings/GeneralSettings.aspx

(2) Hide User from Global Address List - Enabling this option will remove the user account from the Global Address List. This option is used on accounts that are not tied to real people, like [email protected]. For more information please read http://help.smartertools.com/SmarterMail/v5/Topics/DomainAdmin/Settings/AddUser.aspx

Please be very careful of what you do when logged in 'Domain Administrator', as an incorrect change can have irreversible impact on your domain's setup and data. Please remember 'Domain Administrator' enables a lot of additional tweaks however the primary system controller remains HELM.

To get 'Domain Administrator' access for your domain, please make ticket with the following details;
